Basement Seminar
Basement SeminarThe time is now to start all those home improvements before the chilly days of winter arrive; and what better way to start then from the bottom up? Finishing your basement is the first step to creating a great multi-purpose space that can be molded to fit your needs. Whether it's an additional bedroom, home gym, game room, craft room or even a movie theater, finishing your basement gives you the opportunity to get creative.
Adding more functionality to your home with a finished basement can also provide comfort. Having a place to go to when weather takes a negative turn can help put you and your family at ease. Finishing a basement can also offer an opportunity to get organized. Building a separate storage area or even adding simple shelving can open up the room and remove clutter, making way for more functional family space.
Unsure where to start? Join us for our Basement Seminar November 7th, 6-7:30pm and get the information you need to move forward. Seating is limited so please RSVP for this event. Refreshments will be provided.

Exterior Fall Maintenance
Although the fall season has just begun, winter is just around the corner! Take the necessary steps now to ensure your home and lawn can hold up to another cold, wet season.
Clean your Gutters- Remove all debris from your gutters so water can properly drain. Consider installing “gutter guards,” which will prevent debris from entering the gutter and direct the flow of water away from the house and into the ground.
Trim your trees and remove dead branches- Harsh weather can cause weak branches or trees to bust off and cause damage to your home, car, power lines or even a bystander on your property. Be aware of damaged or dead branches, fungus at the base, cracks in the trunk and unusual changes in the leaves. If you have questions or concerns contact a professional.
Step and handrail maintenance- fix broken steps and banisters. Eliminate icy surprises in the future.
Check out your roof- Take the first step in preventing expensive or emergency repairs. Scan the roof for loose shingles, gaps in flashing and damaged mortar around chimney.
Inspect your home’s exterior walls- Always be aware of cracks, loose mortar, rot, gapping in siding, etc.. Observing the exterior of your home often and especially during the fall and winter months is a great way to catch a problem before it causes damage.
Your greatest tool as a homeowner is to be aware of what your home needs. Observing, tracking and calling for help are all steps that put you in the right direction to enjoying your home year round. If you have questions or concerns feel free to call and talk to one of our knowledgeable staff and get started on those repairs today!

DIY
DIY- Do it yourself. An acronym often used for crafting or repurposing things for your home or as gifts; but what about DIYing your home? It’s fun to think of yourself single-handedly transforming your home, but there are things that even an expert handyman shouldn’t attempt alone.
• Roof Repairs- Besides the obvious dangers of hurting yourself, the opportunity to cause deeper (and more expensive) damage can happen a little too easily. Limit your trips to the roof to routine check-ups and gutter cleaning. Professionally completed roofs can last 20 years or more, so save yourself the trouble and call a professional.
• Replacing Windows- Properly installed windows can have a major impact on your home and more importantly your wallet. Poorly installed windows can be directly linked to a flux in your home’s energy costs and can lead to water damage to interior walls. Hiring a certified contractor who is knowledgeable in the craft can make the installation process a little easier and save you future hassles.
• Attic Insulation- If your attic is easy to get to, the thought of insulating it yourself may seem like a good idea. Stop. To get the ultimate benefits you’re looking for, the attic must be properly sealed prior to insulation. If this step is not completed properly, installing the insulation becomes a wasted effort.
Being handy is always a trait to be proud of. However when it comes to transforming your home it’s crucial to get it right- the first time. So put the hammer down and call Paulson’s! We will work with you to turn your DIY project into a completed masterpiece.

Accessibility
Comfortable: a word that should always describe your home. Transforming your living space to fit your needs is the first step to bringing that word in to your household. If you or a family member are living with disabilities it’s important to hire a professional who can make your home functional for all that inhabit it.
When hiring a contractor to complete your accessibility modification there are a few points to consider.
• Ask around- Talk to friends, family and neighbors and see who they recommend.
• Read reviews- Take to the web and search contractors you have in mind. Reputation is crucial when choosing a contractor and reading reviews can give a good idea based off past clients.
• Ask for references- Don’t hesitate to ask for references. Often clients will agree to be contacted after a positive work experience. Request clients with similar projects so your questions can be answered accordingly.
Choosing a contractor doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. When choosing a contractor for your accessibility project be sure to prepare yourself and do your research. Changing your home can change your life and making an educated choice will put you and your family at ease. Here at Paulson’s we are highly trained and well-stocked in accessibility options. Stop in to our showroom or call and set up an appointment to get your project in motion today!
