Remodelers Show

Paul & Alison are at the Remodelers Show in Indianapolis. At least every other year we attend the show and the seminars there to keep us up to date on the latest and greatest in our industry. Remodeling is what we do and it only makes to stay current with what's going on. Technology and building science are constantly changing and improving. By staying current, we bring more to our clients than others do. Want to know what's new? Ask us.

Certified Renovators

Paul and Andy are some of the first in the State to achieve the new Certified Renovator as it applies to working with older homes and lead-based paint issues. This is a new REQUIREMENT from the EPA. April of 2010 is the deadline for all those working with lead-based paint to be certified. Not only do those that work on the jobs HAVE to be trained but the firm they work for MUST be certified through the EPA. The new rules are very stringent and the old way of doing things in our industry is no longer allowed.
This whole program is designed for the safety of children and the other occupants of a home during a renovation project as well as the safety of those doing the work. Yes, it's new and with that goes a lot of resistance. However, this stuff is NOT optional. If you live in a home built prior to 1978, chances are you may have some lead-based paint in the home. The older the home, the more likely it will be found. We will test for it and advise the appropriate procedures for doing the renovation the RIGHT way.
Will this cost more to do the project? Unfortunately, yes it will. Please remember that this new program comes from the EPA. It is designed for the safety of all those involved in the project. And, while it didn't come from us, once you understand the ramifications of poor renovation practices, we think you'll be glad to pay a little more and really glad you found a contractor like us who knows what we're doing.
If you have an older home and want to talk to a contractor about doing your project the right way (and the legal way), get in touch with us.

All builders and maintenance and alteration contractors are REQUIRED to be licensed in the State of Michigan. It's not optional. We are required to post our licenses in our place of business. They even give us a wallet size of the license to carry with us. Don't be shy. Ask to see it.

All you have to do is ask and we'd be happy to give you a copy of license. As a matter of fact, our license # is 2102150430. Check out our history or the history of other contractors at www.michigan.gov

Headless Horseman 5K

Run, Ichabod, Run! Paul ran in the 5K last night. It was a pretty cool event and we're looking forward to next year. This race was a new PR for Paul. Still slow but a little faster than the Melon Run. Next up is Fantasy of Lights.

2nd Annual Great Pumpkin Classic Car Show

Thank you to everyone who was involved in the second annual Great Pumpkin Classic Car Show held on October 10 at the Tanger Outlet Center in Howell. We had a great turn out with over 75 cars participating. Cars (and trucks) were judged in 19 classes, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners were awarded trophies. All entrants received goody bags and dash plaques and were also eligible for the wonderful door prizes donated by our sponsors. Many people also participated in the 50/50 raffles held throughout the day.

We had a beautiful October day, a little chilly, but nothing to deter all the classic car owners and fans from enjoying the day. As a result of the generosity of all our entrants sponsors, and in-kind donations, we were able to raise almost $6000 for the Livingston County Salvation Army. The Salvation Army provides many vital services to our community from rent and utilities assistance to disaster relief and elderly services. They also run many, many other valuable programs.

This event would not have been possible without the help of our sponsors. These fine companies have yet again proven their commitment to our community. They are Art Ventures (Brighton), Allied Building Products (Howell), Morrison Industrial Equipment (Brighton), My Crate Motor.com (Howell), Paulson’s Construction (Howell), the Tanger Outlet Center of Howell, and Wilson Tent Services, Co. (Howell).

Mark your 2010 calendars for the second Saturday in October for next year’s Great Pumpkin Car Show. We plan to make our third annual show an even bigger and better event!
