The 5K runs

Paul & Chris ran in the Turkey Trot (the 5K) in Detroit, MI on Thanksgiving Day. Paul's brother Tom, who is in the Army, is home from S. Korea and ran also. There were over 14,000 people in the running events and over 12,000 of them were in the 5K. It was pretty crazy but also very cool to see all of the people and the pageantry that went along with it. It was quite an event. Chris came in 26th overall---AWESOME! Paul was in the top 400--Not Bad but a new PR for Paul. And Tom, well, we're not sure. His time didn't get recorded but he was between Chris & Paul.

Last night, Paul, Chris & Peter ran in the Fantasy of Lights 5K Run in Howell, MI. Chris was 66th, Peter was 150th and Paul was 340th overall. Great job guys. A new PR for Paul again. It was a little chilly but a great night to run in Downtown Howell. The parade after the run was great as well. What a cool event.

We hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving from all of us at Paulson's Construction.

Cross Country

Paul & Alison's sons, Chris & Peter, were recognized at the Byron High School Cross Country banquet last night.
As a Freshman, Peter was awarded his Varsity letter. He ran over 300 miles during the season and worked really hard to get his times down. He did a great job.
As a junior, Chris, and the rest of the top runners, went to the State meet at MIS. They did great. It was the first time in school history that the team made it. Chris was also awarded Academic All-State. Way to go, Chris.
They worked very hard and accomplished their goals. We are very proud of them. Look for them on some jobs over the holiday season and during the summer.

Changing colors, Change the batteries

It's that time of year again. The time has changed, the colors have changed, have you changed the batteries in your smoke detectors?
It's no joke. Paul spent almost 6 years on the Howell Area Fire Department and it's for real. CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES. Non-working smoke detectors and dryer fires seemed to be the most of what we saw when we had a "structure fire". Please be safe. It only costs a few bucks for new batteries and it matters SO much.
Just like the smoke detectors save lives, our line of helpful accessible products help avoid falls, broken hips, and trips to the hospital. (We don't make this up. Our clients completely agree). You decide...which is cheaper?
Let us show you what we can do to help you or those around you.

Finished Basements

Interested in finishing your basement? Give us a call. We have years of experience and very talented people on staff who will advise you on what's best for your situation.
Below ground finishing is really not as straight forward as everyone thinks. The standard products and applications that are commonly used above ground are usually not the right things to be doing/using downstairs. We have the knowledge, experience and products to make your project come out right and work well for years to come. Being full-service remodelers, we are always ready to add a bath, a bar, or any unique element to help make your finished basement extra special.
We are your dealer for Total Basement Finishing in Michigan and we'd love to showcase our unique and innovative products for you in your home or in our showroom. From walls to ceilings to floors, we've got you covered.
We are licensed and insured and we obtain building permits for all of our basement finishing projects. With that in mind, an egress window may be required. If you would rather not have permits or an egress window or even a professional contractor do the job for you, please call someone else. We take what we do seriously and we strive to get it done the right way. Our license is very important to us and compromising it is not an option.

Commercial Work

Yes, we also do some commercial work. While it is a small percentage of the business that we do it has led to some very interesting projects.
The fundamentals of remodeling, restoration, and renovation still apply in commercial projects it's just a matter of how they are applied. When businesses move out or move in to new spaces is a perfect time to have us get involved. When it's time to update the offices or add new ones, it's a great time to contact us.
We have done many projects for tenants and owners alike who have been very pleased with our approach and end results. Remember, our core is residential and we carry those values into the commercial arena which results in a much better experience for our clients.
Not too long ago we were asked to get involved with a renovation at St. Joseph Church in Howell, MI. Whether the project is small or large, we are here to help.

Additions

This time of year many people completely disregard additions as being practical to do. On the contrary, however, it's really a great time to do it.
1. We always work year-round.
2. The snow is easier to deal with than the rain. We can work in it longer and not get wet, we can push it out of the way, and it doesn't find every little opening and flood through.
3. Pricing on materials is usually at its lowest point in the winter. Spring is when most price increases take place. Don't think for a second that prices won't go up next Spring. They always do.
4. Most additions take 3-4 months. In the winter we can still get it done and not be there in the summer when you want to enjoy your home--without contactors there too.
5. We can take your project from design through completion ANY time of year.

The Holiday Season is almost here

Thanksgiving is a few short weeks away and Christmas and New Year's are not far off. Hunting season is just around the corner, too. With that in mind, now is the time to order to get things done before the Holidays. Or, you can always get the legwork out of the way now and then have us come in after the Holiday Season. We're flexible and will work with your schedule to make it all come together the way you want. The more notice we have, the more options you have.

PS: World Series update. Phillies aren't done yet! What a game last night. Well, it's back to the Bronx tomorrow night for game 6. Stankees lead series 3-2. Go Phillies!

Accessible "Wet Rooms"

One of the things that Paul & Alison brought back from the Remodelers Show is a set of new products to allow us to do "wet rooms". What are wet rooms, you ask? Well, we've always been able to achieve a zero clearance shower (no threshold or curb) but now we have the capability of turning the whole floor into a wet floor. The products and methods have been tested and certified and it doesn't leak. How's a lifetime warranty on this system sound?
Our partners at AKW Medicare have been working on this a while and now we can bring it to you. How about a bathroom that you wouldn't have to worry about if the floor gets wet or even floods. How about a mud room with a drain in the floor that you could use to help with cleaning the pets or even the kids.
In the space of this blog we can't really do the system justice. Contact us for more information and ideas on how this would work for you.

PS: Yeah, I know, the Stankees won again. They lead Series 3-1. Game 5 is tonight in Philly. Cliff Lee is on the mound for Philly. Should be another great game.

Happy Halloween

I hope everyone had a fun time last night. Trick-or-treating, and a bonfire with friends made for a nice night on our side. However, the "Stankees" won again. It was great game and tonight's should be a good one as well.
Go Phillies!

November is here and the Holidays are not far off. Now's the time to order and get those home projects done in time to enjoy them with family and friends. Contact us now.
